Midwife Joana Hillman

Hello, I'm Joana! I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Lucerne. I am married and have two wonderful boys (*2022 and *2025). When I am not out visiting families, you can usually find me and my kids at the playground or acting as the secret Thermomix queen in my kitchen. With both warmth and professional expertise, I am looking forward to supporting you throughout your pregnancy, birth, and those precious initial weeks with your baby.

Pregnancy

During your pregnancy, I offer you comprehensive and personal support. Together, we create a sense of trust and security in this special time, including:

• Completely relaxed at your home: I visit you for regular check-ups in your familiar environment.

• In a professional atmosphere: Alternatively, we can also schedule the appointments at the Terra Alta birthing centre in Lucerne.

• Perfectly prepared: In my individual birthing class we prepare specifically for your child's arrival.

You can attend check-ups both with me and/or with your gynecologist. The organ screening between the 20th and 24th week of pregnancy is a requirement for my care during your pregnancy.

Birth

I work as a midwife at the Terra Alta birthing centre in Lucerne. Currently, I assist at births as a secondary midwife and as a substitute for Ivonne (www.beleghebamme-luzern.ch), so I am unfortunately unable to accept any additional cases at this time.

For due dates from January onwards, I look forward to hearing from you and supporting you during the birth.

Postpartum

Once your little one arrives, I will visit you at home during the first eight weeks. In this sacred time, I gently guide you through your new family life, monitoring your baby's growth and well-being. My focus is on providing a peaceful space for your physical recovery and emotional balance as you settle in together.

Your Questions (FAQ)

Does health insurance cover the costs of my care?

Yes, basic health insurance covers the costs for midwifery care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, as well as three breastfeeding consultations. However, please note that availability fees (on-call fees) are invoiced privately. These are 100.- for pregnancy, 780.- for birth support, and 120.- for the postpartum period.

Which geographical regions do you currently serve?

I care for families within the city of Lucerne and the surrounding suburban areas. My range is approximately 5km, and I am unable to cross the cantonal border.

When is the best time to register for your care?

It is best to contact me as early as possible—ideally by the 12th week of your pregnancy. This helps me ensure my availability and reserve a place just for you.

Do you provide your midwifery services in English?

Yes, I offer fully bilingual midwifery services in both German and English to support international families living in the Lucerne region.
